Pet Micro-chipping

The thought of our fur babies being out of sight is enough to make us shudder! But sadly, pet thefts are disturbingly becoming a more common occurrence in Lancashire. Proof of ownership alone is enough reason to bring your fur baby for pet micro-chipping in Preston. However, many people do not realise it is also a legal requirement to have your dog micro-chipped. All dogs over the age of eight weeks must have a micro-chip with up-to-date owner details.

What is Pet Micro-Chipping?

The micro-chip is a miniscule, yet integral piece of equipment which is inserted into the animal’s skin on the neck. This allows your pet to be scanned and identified should they be lost or stolen. Your details are held on a national database , so it is easier to reunite you with your beloved pet.

Pet Micro-chipping

What happens if I Don’t Comply?

If you choose not to have your dog chipped and registered on the approved database, you may be served a notice. This notice will give you 21 days to register and chip your dog. Failure to do so can land you with a £500.00 fine. Likewise, you will also be liable for a fine if the details are not kept up to date.

Will it Hurt My Pet?

Your pet should feel no more discomfort than he/she would when receiving their standard vaccinations. It is a very quick procedure carried out by expert clinicians with the skills to cause minimum stress to your pet. We advise that it is best to have kittens/puppies chipped around 7 weeks old. If you have a nervous pet, you may wish to take advantage of our mobile service. This means we can chip your pet in the comfort of their own home and surroundings.
