Dog Ultrasound scans

We have the latest state of the art equipment to carry out pet ultrasounds in Preston and the surrounding areas. We can either carry out the ultrasound scan in our canine fertility clinic or in the comfort of your own home. Our qualified clinicians are highly trained to carry out the scans which give an internal picture of your pet’s health and well-being.

Why have an Ultrasound?

The scans are often carried out to check for pregnancy (whelping), however it also provides a general health overview. In addition to checking for pregnancy, ultrasound scans can check for pyometra. This is a life-threatening infection which develops in the womb and requires prompt treatment. Furthermore, much like human ultrasounds, we can monitor the foetus’s progression during pregnancy. Which means we can see puppy heartbeats, movements and give an estimate on litter count and due date.

We offer scans between 4 – 5 weeks after the second mating to allow us to see the embryos in the sacks. The scan will allow us to confirm pregnancy but does not give exact litter numbers. We can provide an estimate as a guide based on the scan, but numbers can change either way.

How it works

The scans usually take around 15 minutes for each appointment. We can complete them at our specialist clinic in Preston or if you prefer, our clinicians can visit you. In preparation for your appointment, you should do the following.

Try to ensure your dogs bladder is as empty as possible.

Our clinicians are experienced in scanning anxious pets, so be open and honest with us. Nobody knows your pet better than you. If you think the procedure may stress them out let us know in advance and we can provide advice.
